The route
Ljubljana → Bled → Bohinj → Ljubljana
Leave Ljubljana
Aim to leave early, particularly in summer – place gets busy!
Lake Bled
Parking
Park your car - your best option is P03 – Central Parking Lot (Bledec Sports Park) €2.50 per hour in 2026. If you want to be close to the swimming spots and Ojstrica, parking will be about €5 per hour. https://the-slovenia.com/en/slovenia/where-to-park-in-bled-complete-parking-guide/
Lake walk
Walk along the eastern/northern shore. Get your first views of the island and castle. If you want a great postcard photo, don’t miss the short climb to Ojstrica. It has a steep section but nothing too scary.

Bled Island
Take a traditional pletna boat to the island or any of the other wooden rowing boats around. Visit the Church of the Assumption. Ring the wishing bell if you like. Take a swim!
If someone gets married on the Bled island, they traditionally have to carry the bride up the 99 steps to the top. Miha’s biceps are not what it used to be so the wedding is elsewhere…
Lunch in Bled
Have something quick rather than a long restaurant lunch. And, importantly, try Bled cream cake (kremšnita). Save the more substantial meal for Bohinj if you prefer.

Lake Bohinj
Takes roughly 30–45 minutes depending on traffic. This is where the character of the trip changes: Bled is polished and touristy, Bohinj is much more natural and peaceful. Parking is best at Vir https://maps.app.goo.gl/74zvLrg6xfoaBYgi7.
Go first to Ribčev Laz, at the eastern end of the lake. See the famous 700 year old Church of St John the Baptist, walk along the lake, swim in the lake (there used to be a free trampoline to practice your flips!). You can also rent a kayak/boat. Sit by the lake, have a drink, and enjoy the mountains. Bohinj is the place I'd deliberately leave some unstructured time.

Vogel
For the lazy views you can take a chairlift up to Slovenia’s most scenic ski centre. It works in the summer as well (except the skiing part) and will give you some nice aerial views of the are and surrounding mountatins.

Savica waterfall
If you want a more active afternoon, also visit Savica Waterfall. It's a short but uphill walk and makes a good final stop.
What after?
Drive back to Ljubljana
Warning: bled is famously horrible for traffic jams on the way back. Make sure you have an extra 30min if rushing to catch a plane.
Alternative to driving back to Ljubljana
Take the train (YES, YOUR CAR GOES ON THE TRAIN) through th mountain to Most na Soči. More about that there (ADD LINK) and continue on the Soča valley itinerary. You can also hike any of the surrounding mountains – probably one of the most epic hikes in all slovenia is the seven Triglav lakes hike you can start there https://www.moonhoneytravel.com/triglav-lakes-valley-hike-slovenia/.
